AND SO MY SOUL

And so my soul
Spills over
Into print again
As the sun spills
Over flowers
And the neighborhood
Sleeps

Endurance is eloquent
And marigolds are
Admirable because
They bloom
So long

Oh, my heart
Is tender
Yet God keeps it
Strong
And so my soul
Spills over
Into print again

early June morning

Poems From Oostburg, Wisconsin

early June morning
pelicans fly over the water
a deer walks through the yard

new carnations
in an old glass vase
by the window

poinsettia and lily plants
placed by the back patio door
only yesterday
and still in the house

new green
on evergreen branches
an image loved for years
the small new growth

and lilacs bloom

Two New Poems – April 2019

BOOKS

there was a time
when the book
did not exist

perhaps in the
writer’s heart and
mind

yet still the process
to create for others
to read in some form

there was a time
when the reader
did not know

the book exists
yet once found
is read and reread

treasured forever
among many books

“GIVE US THIS DAY”

healthy food
and more exercise
as the weather
is more like Spring

blood pressure monitor
on my desk and
mail from Medicare
on the kitchen table

Spring appointments
on my calendar
and grateful for care
both kind and good

poetry in the mail too
and a shelf of memoirs
from thrift stores to read
food for the soul

Give us this day our daily bread.
