sometimes when I pray
before a meal, I remember
my grandmother’s prayers
in Swedish, and her voice

sometimes when I pray
before a meal, I remember
my grandmother’s prayers

country roads
signs of change
in the landscape
and sky
yard overgrown
with plants
for bees
and butterflies
so much can wait
one step at a time
so much gets done

early morning
light on an old painting
in a new place
by Ellen Grace Olinger
My poem was published by hedgerow: a journal of small poems #136, 2021, edited by Caroline Skanne. Reprinted at Charlotte Digregorio’s Writer’s Blog.
clouds and yet
enough light
to fill a jam jar
with the last
of the carnations
morning light
on a December morning
blue sky and clouds
in the window
above my printer
morning light
in late Fall
a place on the wall
for a new small
painting
sometimes it seems
the older I grow
the more simple
my poems become
and yet they are
supported by years
all the ways life
challenges and grows
and I am grateful
for every day
and look forward
by God’s grace
